In 1989, the Union Square Mall was sold and demolished to make way for the New Marketplace Center. At this time, Thomas Wong relocated The Rose Garden Restaurant to Central Plaza facing the busy Alvarado-Niles Road. In the following years, the Wong children took over the management and the restaurant began to thrive and developed a strong reputation among a growing number of loyal customers for great food and warm friendly service. In 1995, The Rose Garden underwent renovation to expand its dining room giving it the present look. The restaurant now seats 130 and often caters to many large functions.
In the fall of 1999, the Wong family opened a second location, ROSES Café, at the Union Landing cinema complex. For 10 years, Union City was graced with two restaurants that could call its own.
In 2009, the Wong Family downsized its ROSES Café location, leaving The Rose Garden Restaurant as A Union City Landmark.
